NATO Innovation Network

A platform to share insights and expertise throughout the Alliance.

  • Connect innovation cells in NATO nations.
  • Support innovation efforts of NATO and partner nations.
  • Provides central means to leverage products developed for the NATO Community.

Uniting Military Innovation Enties

Over the past years, the NIN has evolved into a comprehensive, alliance-spanning network that unites military innovation entities, NATO bodies, research institutes, and industry across five key areas: the Open Military Innovation Circle, Research & Education Circle, Industry & Entrepreneurs Circle, Community of Innovators Circle, and Partner Nations.

OMIC

In the Open Military Innovation Circle, the NATO Innovation Network brings together innovation entities from armed services of the Alliance and the NATO Enterprise in a living network of military innovation practitioners.

In monthly meetings, topics of interest will be highlighted and discussed. For each of the entities connected to this circle, the NIN will create a tailor-made engagement plan to support their innovation efforts. In addition, NIN OMIC serves as a communication platform and loudspeaker for innovation efforts of its members.

REC

The NIN Research & Education Circle fosters the link between NATO and research and educational institutes. Through bilateral relationships, NIN IEC members contribute to the advisory role of the NIN to NATO bodies and military innovation entities and provide us with studies and educational products.

IEC

The NIN Industry & Entrepreneurs Circle focuses on collaboration with innovative industry and entrepreneurs through national or sectoral industry associations, governmental industry platforms, as well as through established NATO bodies like the NATO Industry Advisory Group and the NATO DIANA accelerator program.

The NIN IEC will become one of the primary sources for information on current technological developments and innovative solutions.

COIC

In our NIN Community of Innovators Circle, we maintain relationships with the broader and growing military innovation community on an individual level. Members of NIN CIC have a personal affinity with military innovation and will be kept up to date on events, topics and news surrounding the activities of the NATO Innovation Hub, the NATO Innovation Network and related events in the military innovation sphere.

PN

Our NIN Partner Nations are nations that are not a part of NATO, but have partnered with us through other treaties such as the Mediterranean Dialogue or the Istanbul Cooperation Initiative. The NIN will maintain bilateral relations with them and strives to act as an advisor and supporter of their innovation efforts within the boundaries of the specific treaty or agreement.

NIN Structure

The NATO Innovation Network is structured under the overarching NATO Innovation Hub, with three primary areas of focus: MVP Development, NATO Innovation Challenge, and The NATO Innovation Network.
