With over 2,500 participants, this year’s Coalition Warrior Interoperability eXploration (CWIX) event in Bydgoszcz, Poland, was the largest so far, and we at the Innovation Hub were thrilled to be a part of it. CWIX is a critical platform for testing and validating new technologies that support Multi-Domain Operations (MDO) and Digital Transformation priorities. This year, our AI-enabled Multi-domain Effects Demonstrator (AIMED) Minimum Viable Product (MVP) was highly anticipated by both ACT and SHAPE leadership. However, our participation was uncertain due to a significant delay in purchasing the off-the-shelf SitaWare Headquarters license.
The license, essential for the AIMED capability, was not purchased until May, less than one month before CWIX. This delay initially forced us to withdraw AIMED from the event. Simultaneously, the AIMED concept was selected as an Innovation Spotlight capability, underscoring its importance and potential impact.
Once the license was secured, our team sprang into action. We quickly trained our developers, created a panel mock-up to facilitate operational utility discussions, and re-entered the AIMED capability into CWIX. Upon arriving, our personnel established interoperable connections to six other capabilities via multiple standards, including the German and American Common Operational Pictures (COP).
This experience was a testament to our team’s resilience and dedication. Despite the initial setbacks, we successfully demonstrated AIMED’s operational utility and interoperability. We learned invaluable lessons about interoperability’s capabilities and limitations, which are now guiding our preparations for CWIX 2025.
Our participation at CWIX highlighted the Innovation Hub’s agility and reinforced the importance of collaboration and rapid adaptation in achieving our goals. We are excited to build on this experience and continue pushing the boundaries of innovation in support of our Multi-Domain Operations and Digital Transformation priorities.
